Dongguk University WISE Campus Department of Japanese Language and Literature holds a field week with students from Konan University in Japan

The Department of Japanese Language and Literature at Dongguk University WISE Campus announced that it conducted international exchange and major practice with students from Konan University located in Kobe, Japan from February 20th to 23rd as part of a major specialization project.

18 Japanese students participated in this visit, including the director of the Matsukawa International Exchange Center at Konan University in Japan.

A Japanese Language and Literature student who participated in Field Week said, “It was great to be able to spend four days with Japanese students, and I felt proud as I prepared for presentations with my Japanese friends and gave presentations in Japanese.” “I will exchange Instagram messages with my Japanese friends and keep in touch in the future,” he said of his participation.

This exchange was achieved by matching Conan University's area studies program with the major specialization activities of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature with the help of the International Exchange Office of Dongguk University WISE Campus.

Students from both schools visited Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Yangdong Village, and Gyeongju National Museum, listened to explanations about local tourism in Gyeongsangbuk-do from the Gyeongbuk Tourism Organization, experienced a meditation program at the Zen center on campus, and spent the evening at the Munmugwan. They also participated in a welcome event for new students and had time to experience Korean university culture. In addition, a farewell ceremony was held after a group presentation at Won Hyo-gwan Global ACE Hall on the topic of ‘What I Learned at Gyeongju Fieldwork’.

Director of the Matsukawa International Exchange Center at Konan University in Japan said, “I am very satisfied with the exchange between students from both universities through this visit,” and suggested, “We should conclude a formal exchange agreement between the two universities in the future.”

Based on this experience, the Department of Japanese Language and Literature at Dongguk University WISE Campus plans to expand class exchanges beyond student exchanges with Japan.
